Newar House Renovation | Houston, Texas
Stern and Bucek renovated this 1960s modernist house overlooking a tributary of Buffalo Bayou to reinforce its strong architectural character as well as address certain inadequacies. The original entry sequence was redesigned by inserting poured-in-place concrete walls at the driveway approach and a new garden with a linear fountain in the entry courtyard. The entry foyer and an adjacent kitchen and breakfast area open to the courtyard, creating a pleasing outdoor connection. A new stair steps down from the foyer to the expansive living room that overlooks the bayou. The living, dining, and family rooms as well as the kitchen were opened up and fully remodeled to provide easy flow between rooms.
