Stern and Bucek Office | Houston, Texas
To house its office, Stern and Bucek Architects leased a 2,400 square foot raw, unfinished space in a 1915 warehouse building on the eastern edge of downtown Houston. In renovating the space, the team stripped layers of paint from heavy timber columns and beams, restored steel sash windows and painted the brick walls white. The entry’s new glass door is set behind the original steel roll-up door off the raised concrete loading dock that now serves as the building’s front porch. The open studio is organized around the timber columns and divided between a reception area in front, work-stations in the middle and principals' offices and conference area to the rear.
